Junior Easter Extravaganza of Activities During Holidays

Through the New Opportunities Fund and Moray Council the Easter Holiday Programme organised through the Youth Sports Development Department for young people is again action packed. 

During the first week of the holidays there are activity weeks in Miltonduff Village Hall and Bishopmill Primary School.   The activity weeks are in a similar format to the Fun In The Sticks initiative that was previously delivered by the department.  The activity weeks will run from 10am-3pm from Monday to Friday and the day will consist of 2 hours of sports and 2 hours of fun games including teamwork, co-operation and problem solving games.  Participants can register to attend both or either of the daily sessions.  The activity weeks are open to 7-12yr olds and each session costs £2, or £16 if booked in advance for full week.  The activity weeks during the second week of the holidays will be taking place at Lhanbryde Primary School, Keith Senior Primary School and Mortlach Primary School, Dufftown. 

A badminton camp will be taking place at Elgin Community Centre during the first week (28th March-1st April) from 2.00-4.00pm and at Forres Academy during the second week (4th-8th April) from 2.00-4.00pm.  At the badminton camps participants will learn and develop their skills and techniques in the game of badminton in a fun and enjoyable setting.  The cost to attend all the week long sports specific camps will be £12.  The badminton camps will be open to 7-12yr olds.

A hockey camp has been organised to take place at Elgin High School.   The hockey camp will be taking place during the first week of the holidays from 10.00-12.00noon daily.  Lots of different fun competitions and games will be played at this camp to help develop the players ability in the game.  The hockey camp will be open to youngsters aged 6-11yrs.

Keith Community Centre will be the venue for a basketball camp, which will also be taking place during the first week of the holidays from 10.00-12.00noon.   Participants will develop handling, passing and shooting techniques used in the game of basketball by coming along to this camp.  Youngsters aged 8-14yrs will be able to attend the basketball camp.

Two mixed sports camps have been organised for during the holiday period.  These camps will take place during the second week at Buckie Community High School and Lossiemouth Community Centre.  At these camps youngsters will be able to participate in a range of sports including cricket, volleyball, badminton, rugby, handball and lots more.  The Buckie camp will run from 9.30-12.30pm, with the Lossiemouth camp from 1.30-4.30pm.  The cost to attend these 2 camps will be £20 for the whole week.  The mixed sports camps are open to 7-12yr olds.

A cricket fun day has been organised for Thursday 7th April from 1.00-4.00pm for 7-11yr olds.  The venue for this fun day has still to be confirmed.  The fun day will involve fun games and competitions including bowling, catching and batting, which are all related to the game of cricket.

Playschemes have also been organised through the local community centres.   Activities at these playschemes will range from egg rolling and cooking to games and adventure days. For further information on the playschemes in your local area please contact your local community centre.
