A number of after-school sports sessions have been organised for youngsters during the summer term. These sessions have been organised through the Moray Council and New Opportunities Fund. The sports will include Badminton, Basketball, Hockey, Mixed Sports and Tennis. The blocks of coaching are 9 to 10 weeks in duration and qualified coaches who have been vetted for working with children are leading the sessions. At these sessions participants will learn and develop the skills in each of the particular sports in a fun and enjoyable setting. All equipment is provided for these sessions, participants are required to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Badminton sessions will be taking place at Speyside Community High School on a Tuesday night from 6.00 - 8.00pm and these sessions are open to 8-16 year olds. Elgin Community Centre is the venue for badminton on a Saturday morning from 10.00am - 12 noon and these sessions are open to 7-12 year olds. The cost of the Speyside badminton sessions is £17.50 with the Elgin sessions £15.75.Basketball sessions will be taking place at Elgin, Lossiemouth and Fochabers. The Elgin sessions will run on a Tuesday afternoon from 3.45 - 4.45pm at the Community Centre. The Community High School is the venue at Lossiemouth on a Saturday from 11.00am - 12 noon and Milnes High School in Fochabers will be running sessions on a Wednesday evening from 5.45 - 6.45pm. The age range for the basketball sessions is 7-12 year olds. The basketball blocks are at a cost of £17.50.Hockey sessions will take place at Keith Community Centre on a Friday afternoon from 3.45 - 4.45pm. These sessions are open to 7-12 year olds at a cost of £17.50.
Tennis will be taking place at the Cooper Park Tennis Courts in Elgin on a Monday from 4.00 - 6.00pm. Elgin High School will be the wet weather back up for these sessions. Craigellachie Tennis Courts is the venue on a Wednesday from 4.00 - 5.00pm with the Village Hall as a wet weather backup. On a Thursday, the venue will be Aberlour Tennis Courts from 4.00 - 5.00pm with Speyside Community High School as the indoor option. Ian Johnston Park Tennis Courts in Buckie will be the venue on Fridays from 4.00 - 6.00pm with the Community High School as the wet weather backup. The tennis sessions are open to 7-12 year olds and all the venues are at a cost of £17.50 apart from Elgin, which is £15.75.
