Launch of Community Safety Questionnaire

The Moray Community Safety Partnership is about to launch a Community Safety Questionnaire across the area.  The survey, which is being distributed under the Community Planning theme – “Achieving a Safer Community,” should provide valuable information in relation to the public’s perception of crime and anti-social behaviour levels in Moray.

Local Authority Liaison Officer, Sergeant Paul Bremner, who represents the Community Safety Partnership said, “We have robust crime recording mechanisms in place in Moray, and current figures as with previous years suggest that Moray is a very safe place to live.  However, we want to find out how safe people feel in the area and the only way this can be achieved is through a survey based questionnaire.  The results will also provide a basis for comparison with future surveys aimed at measuring the impact of Community Wardens in Moray”.

The brief survey, which will be sent out to 1,500 randomly selected households throughout Moray, will also ask for residents’ views and experiences of anti-social behaviour.

Sergeant Bremner added, “Anti-social behaviour is a wide ranging problem, and although this type of behaviour is recorded by the Local Authority and the Police, particularly where it forms part of criminal conduct, a number of instances are not reported. For our Partnership to be able to gauge the real impact of anti-social behaviour in our communities and to target the right areas for action, this sort of information is vital.  For that reason, we would be extremely grateful if everyone who receives a survey, could complete and return it within the deadline”.

In addition to the postal survey, questionnaires will be available at Community Centres and Libraries throughout Moray. A freepost envelope accompanies all questionnaires so there will be no cost to respondents.  From the 15th April the questionnaire will also be available online, via the Moray Council website, at www.moray.gov.uk.
