The Moray Council is about to embark on a second round of public consultation meetings on the future provision of schools across Moray.
The first meeting is scheduled for Monday 30th May 2005 at 7.30 p.m. in New Elgin Primary School and there will be a further 7 meetings across Moray from 6th to 20th June. Full details are contained in an information leaflet which is being issued to all parents and staff this week.
The leaflet outlines a variety of options for consideration including new build, refurbishments, mergers and closures.
At the public meetings, senior officers from Educational Services will explain these options in more detail.
Alistair Farquhar, Head of Educational Resource Services, is encouraging parents to attend the meetings where possible in order to consider the various options and to offer their views and ideas. Mr Farquhar continued, “Once all the meetings have taken place, a collation of all public and staff responses will be provided for the Elected Members of the Moray Council who will consider proposals by October this year. It is important that the Elected Members are made fully aware of the public's views, ideas and wishes for the future of educational provision in Moray”.
“The options for consideration will clearly need to be refined in the light of public and staff views. At the moment there is the potential for approximately £70m worth of new build and/or refurbishment phased over a period of years. There is also the potential for a number of school closures also to be phased over a period of years”. Mr Farquhar concluded, "It is important therefore that parents and staff take the opportunity to become involved in the process of planning for the future school estate in Moray”.
