As part of the work of the Moray Domestic Abuse Forum, Information Worker, Pat Bailey-McKay, is working in partnership with school communities in the Forres (local community network) area.
Over the last five months, Pat has delivered input on domestic abuse to senior pupils as part of their personal and social education programme and there are plans to offer information sessions for all staff, to raise awareness of issues around domestic abuse.
The production of a bookmark for children and young people has been funded by the Moray Domestic Abuse Forum. The bookmark, which was developed with the help of pupils at Forres Academy, explains what domestic abuse is, how it can make children and young people feel and lists organisations that they can contact for help if they, or a loved one, is experiencing domestic abuse.
Initially the bookmarks are being distributed to all pupils in Forres Academy and its eight associated primary schools – Anderson’s, Applegrove, Alves, Dallas, Dyke, Kinloss, Logie and Pilmuir, and are available in community settings, such as YouthCafes. At the start of the new academic year (August/September 2005), distribution will be extended to cover all schools in Moray.
