at the West Beach, Lossiemouth
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July
If you want a fun weekend trying something new, head for the Clubhouse at the West Beach, Lossiemouth for the Open Days on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July.
Moray Firth Watersports Association, in partnership with Moray Council’s Sports Development Service, has organised 2 days of fun. For kids from 8 years to adults, there will be a chance to have a go at all those things you’ve watched other people doing on the water!
On offer will be:
Dinghy sailing for 8-13 year olds.
RYA Scotland are bringing their trailer up with the colourful TAZ dinghies and 2 instructors to offer 90 minute taster sessions for youngsters.
Windsurfing for 8 years to adult
Lossiemouth Sailing Club has invested in small rig boards, which are perfect for children and adults to learn on. Sessions are 60 minutes, with a qualified instructor.
Kayaking for 8 years to adult
Moray Canoe and Kayak Club are running 60 minute “taster” sessions, which will give you the opportunity to paddle in the lagoon area.
Children’s sessions will cost £5 and adults £10 which will include all the equipment including wetsuits (but bring your own if you have one!). You will need to bring spare, old trainers that can get wet and your shower gear.
For children who want to progress their dinghy sailing skills, the RYA team will be offering certified Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses following on from the “taster” sessions.
The Stage 1 Course will be run on Monday 18th July from 9.30am - 5pm. This course will cost £30 for Lossiemouth Sailing Club members and £50 for non-members.
The Stage 2 Course will be run on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th July. This course will cost £50 for Lossiemouth Sailing Club members and £75 for non-members.
Any proceeds from these sessions will go to the Lossiemouth Sailing Club and Moray Canoe & Kayak Club to help buy new equipment.
All children must be accompanied, by a parent or guardian, who must stay whilst the child is on the water and help them change etc.
For details on how to register for the sessions, please call 01343 557147, or log on to the Moray Firth Watersports Association website www.mfwa.co.uk where you can download the application form.
