Bats in the Belfry of the Bishop's Palace
Date -04 Aug 2005 Return to previous page

Join Doug Hawkes, Moray Coast Countryside Ranger on Friday 12th August 2005 at Spynie Palace to hear bats’ hunting calls on the Ranger’s bat detector, an electronic device that reduces the frequency of the bats’ sonar like calls to a level we can hear.

Look out for barn owls and listen to them screeching, snoring and snorting as the chicks wait for food in the nest.  Hear the tawny owls hooting in the neighbouring wood and admire the beautiful shapes and colours of moths.  To round off the event look to the sky for meteors of the perseid meteor shower.  This is the ultimate natural spectacular and summertime event.

If you would like to come along meet at 8.45 p.m. at Spynie Palace car park at the end of the narrow lane signposted from the A941 Elgin to Lossiemouth Road.  The event will last 2 hours.
