Affordable Housing for First Time Buyers
Date -02 Sep 2005 Return to previous page

The Moray Council is offering first time house buyers in Moray an excellent opportunity to get on the housing ladder at affordable prices.

The Moray Council is selling a terrace of 23 two bedroomed houses in Pinefield Crescent, New Elgin at discounted prices. The former Defence Housing Executive homes are being sold for between £48,000 and £52,000 depending on their location and whether there is a garage.

Existing Council or Housing Association tenants in Moray will be given the opportunity to purchase the properties in the first instance.  In the event that any remain unsold, further sales will target applicants who are either on the Council or Housing Association waiting lists for housing in Moray.  Any further unsold properties will be offered to first time buyers.

A shortage of affordable houses has been identified as one of the most important housing issues in Moray.  Low wages and rising house prices in the area mean that many people cannot afford to buy a house.  Councillor George McIntyre, Vice Chairman of the Community Services Committee said, ‘This initiative is aimed at assisting first time buyers purchase their own home, at affordable prices.  It will also relieve some of the pressure on housing waiting lists, by releasing Council or Housing Association accommodation for rent by enabling applicants for housing to purchase a home”.

The houses are being marketed by Cluny Estate Agents on behalf of the Council. There will be open viewing on the 3rd September from 10am to 4pm.  Anyone unable to attend at these times should contact Cluny Estate Agents Tel 01343 548505 to arrange an alternative viewing.
