The Moray Council’s Environmental Services Committee at its meeting on 31st August 2005 heard that the occupancy rates of the Council’s industrial property portfolio had reached an all time high with 97% of the Council’s 131 factories and workshops being leased to businesses at the end of March this year. The 2005 Report on the performance of the Council’s portfolio of industrial land and buildings attributed the high occupancy levels to a combination of strong national and local economic conditions coupled with competitive rentals and a lack of private sector activity in the sector.
The Report also set out proposals to address a shortfall of industrial land in Forres and Buckie and announced the completion of a scheme to provide additional serviced sites for small businesses in Elgin.
The Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Bob Wilson said, “This Report emphasises the need identified in the consultative draft of the Moray Development Plan Review to bring forward more industrial land to meet demand”.
The Council is the primary provider of industrial property to let in Moray. By providing industrial buildings for lease the Council gives new and expanding businesses an opportunity to secure premises at reasonable cost compared to buying or building their own premises. This has encouraged business development in Moray by enabling companies to secure premises for rent thereby releasing capital to fund growth that would otherwise be spent on purchasing or building premises.
The Moray Council has industrial and business premises in a range of sizes and specifications in various locations throughout Moray, designed to accommodate a wide variety of business uses on flexible lease terms and at competitive rentals. The Council also offers serviced industrial sites on long term building leases to businesses wishing to build their own premises.
