The installation of the wind farm facility proposed for Paul’s Hill has now reached the point where the site is ready for the delivery of the large wind turbines. These deliveries are scheduled to begin on Monday 10th October 2005 and continue until the end of February 2006. Convoys of up to 3 long vehicles will run, weather permitting, each day from Monday to Saturday.
The route will be along the A96 from Invergordon, past Forres and into Elgin. From there the convoy will turn off the A96 and onto South Street turning right at the mini roundabout onto the A941. The convoy will follow the A941 out of Elgin in a southerly direction through New Elgin. From Elgin the convoy will follow the A941 through Rothes and then onto the A95 through Aberlour until it reaches the junction with the B9138 at Marypark. The convoy will turn right off the A95 at this point and travel along the B9138 through Marypark and across the bridges at Blacksboat and up to the B9012, Archiestown to Grantown–on-Spey road. Whilst the convoy travels along the B9138 this road will be subject to a temporary road closure for all other traffic, which will be indicated by flashing lights on the approaches. Once the convoy leaves the B9138 it will turn right onto the B9012 and proceed north up to the Kirdellbeg junction where the convoy will turn off the road and up the track to the wind farm facility.
The convoy will pass through Elgin after the morning peak traffic times.
It is anticipated that the road will be closed in the Marypark/Blacksboat area for no longer than 2 hours at a time, sometime after midday and before 5 p.m. each day. Signs with flashing lights will advise drivers when the closure is in place.
The wind farm companies and their hauliers have been in discussions with Grampian Police and Council road engineers for some months in order to facilitate the delivery of the proposed abnormal loads safely and efficiently.
Every endeavour has been made to keep delays to a minimum for residents, businesses and other traffic during the course of this delivery project. If drivers using the roads in the vicinity of Marypark (other than the A95) can use unaffected alternative routes between midday and 5.00 pm each day, it is recommended that they do so. Some delays and disruption are inevitable and road users are asked to be patient during this period.
To allow for the safe passage of the wind farm convoys along the B9138 through Marypark and Blacksboat it was necessary to introduce an additional temporary road closure for a period of one week prior to the start of the convoys. This closure was to allow for the works required to be carried out on the bridge parapets, the section of the road leading up to the B9102 and the road turning areas.
