The Scottish Executive is introducing a new Scotland-wide free bus travel scheme for older people and people with disabilities. The scheme starts on 1st April 2006 and will entitle the cardholder to free bus travel throughout Scotland at any time of the day.
The new scheme replaces the existing local concessionary travel scheme and because it is a national scheme a new card will be required. The scheme is being introduced by the Scottish Executive, however, the Moray Council will still be responsible for issuing and replacing the new cards. The existing cards will no longer be accepted beyond 1st April 2006.
A major exercise will be starting shortly to ensure cards are distributed in time for the start of the new scheme. Moray Council in association with other agencies and commercial outlets will be promoting the scheme and issuing application forms through a series of local roadshow events across Moray. Details of the roadshow will be available shortly and will be displayed in Council Libraries, Access Points and also on the Council web site at www.moray.gov.uk/accessmoray.
Registration requirements are similar to the existing concessionary travel scheme:
If you are an existing concessionary travel pass holder you will need a passport style photograph, current concessionary travel pass and proof that you live in Moray.
If you are a new applicant you can still apply for the existing scheme but will need 2 passport style photographs, proof that you live in Moray and proof that you qualify by age or disability.
