Boost to Moray's Economy

The Moray Council’s Environmental Services Committee was informed at their December meeting of developments and awards from European & Lottery Funding.

Over the last seventeen months 100 projects received £2,543,282, leading to a total since 1995 of 535 grant awards in Moray at a value of £13,868,112.  The lion’s share of funding has gone to support health, educational and environmental good causes. Out of every £1 spent on a National Lottery ticket, around 28pence goes to ‘good causes’, and is allocated to projects and organisations via various Lottery distributors.

Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Bob Wilson said  “I’m delighted at the diverse range of causes which have received funding, from small awards to major capital projects.  This is very encouraging, particularly when (with the exception of the Heritage Lottery Fund) Moray is not a priority area for most Lottery Distributors.  The success in this report might encourage more projects to come forward and apply for funding to maximise the resources and services available in Moray”.

The report also highlights that during 2004/05, 13 projects in Moray at a total value of over £2.1 million were granted £946,379 European funding with a further 4 projects

on a waiting list to receive £174,028. Altogether from the 2000 - 2006 Funding Programmes, 61 Moray proposals at a value of over £ 11 Million have obtained more than £5.4 Million from Europe. As the current European funding programmes are coming to an end next year, the Moray Council’s interests are represented as a partner in the Highland & Island European Partnership and the East of Scotland European Consortium, both actively engaged in lobbying to ensure European monies continue to be available in the new programme from 2007 to 2013.

You can find out how to apply for European or Lottery funding via the Moray Council’s funding website at www.morayfundingsupport.org, which also contains a contact list for further assistance or, you can attend any of the regularly publicised funding seminars.
