Easy Access to Library Reference Services
Date -21 Sep 2006 Return to previous page

Moray’s Library Service has launched new online reference services available free at all libraries and to library members with internet access.

Through the Moray Council’s website at www.moray.gov.uk free access is now available to more than 300 high quality, reliable sources including the world famous Encyclopaedia Britannica and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography with its 50,000 biographies of people who shaped British life. The junior edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica is also available to assist children and parents with homework.

Kompass offers details of over 170,000 UK companies, products and services.

Xreferplus has 170 reference books including encyclopaedias, dictionaries, books of quotations while KnowUK has all the key directories, and NewsUK has 67 local and national newspapers.

Councillor Alasdair Urquhart, Chair of the Educational Services Committee, identifies this new provision as a significant improvement in delivering the Council’s services online, in widening access across Moray and in improving access to essential information and learning.

"This new service offers a wonderful resource to anyone requiring high quality information. It will clearly be of great benefit to local businesses, to students, to parents supporting their children’s learning and indeed to the whole community.

Through this service users of local libraries and library members with internet access have a major reference library at their fingertips."
