Former community website hijacked by Russian pornography site
Date -26 Jan 2007 Return to previous page

A former Moray community web site has been taken over by hard-core Russian pornography.

The site used to be operated by the Kinloss and Findhorn community web group in partnership with a firm based within another local community, the Findhorn Foundation.

The firm, Gnosis Ltd, has long since ceased trading.

At the time of the firm ceasing to trade the local community web group tried to buy the domain name, Findhornbay.net, from Gnosis but were only given administration access to it to upload information.

It is understood that a future use for the domain was envisaged by the then owners.

Shortly afterwards a new domain name, Findhornbay.info, became available, and this was used by the community instead.

All reference to the original domain address was changed on accompanying literature.

This has been the position for the last few years, and the community web site is administered by a former Findhorn village resident, Glyn Dodwell, from his new home in Stirling.

The Findhorn Bay web site has won an EU award as community web site of the year, and was originally established with a grant from Europe.

However, ownership of the original web site recently lapsed and is now being used to channel pornography from a site address in Russia.

The local member of Moray Council, Councillor Jeff Hamilton, is keen that users of the web site do not stray into the Russian-held site in error.

"I am really concerned that someone who has not visited for some while may accidentally log on to this disgusting site," he said.

"Or new visitors may be directed to it from a search engine".

"I want to warn people about this before they or their children see images that will certainly offend them".
