Planning consent has been granted for the installation of an all-abilities pontoon system at Hopeman harbour.
The pounds 250,000 project is third phase of the Moray Harbours and Foreshores project that aims to improve the tourist infrastructure of Moray’s harbours and foreshores.
The 60-berth project is a bid to increase leisure boating activity at the harbour and within the Moray Firth.
The pontoons will be accessed via a bridge to allow easier access for people of all abilities to participate in water-based recreational activities.
Hopeman councillor, Eric McGillivray, said the development will see Hopeman firmly on the boating map.
"This is great news, the investment in a pontoon system will improve access to boats and allow more people to enjoy a range of watersports. The project will increase the number of visitors to the town, support local businesses and increase revenue for the harbour.
"Officers in Moray Council, particularly Gary Templeton in the planning department, have put a lot of time and effort into this to make sure it comes off, and I am very grateful to them."
The project is being funded by the Moray Council in partnership with HIE Moray with pounds 63 thousand in grant assistance from the European Regional Development Fund.
Detailed survey work will begin shortly and the project will be completed during the course of this year.
