Korean Visit
Date -10 Jul 2007 Return to previous page

Moray Council was visited by a delegation of 12 government officials from Korea recently.

The group had been visiting the Findhorn Ecovillage and parts of Moray for a week to research sustainability issues.

The group were given presentations from the Scottish Agricultural College and Moray Council’s head of development services, followed by a whisky tasting session.

The visit, hosted by CIFAL Findhorn, was part of a fact-finding mission by a delegation from different departments of Korea central, regional and local government.

The purpose of the visit to Moray was to exchange experiences on sustainable growth and socio-economic development of less advantaged rural areas.

Delegation head and Director at the Department of Agricultural Economy, Kim Eun Mi, said the Korean government is very much interested in developing sustainable agriculture practices.

"We came to Findhorn to learn from the successful elements of its integrated sustainable practices in order to adopt them to the ecovillages we are establishing in Korea”.

The delegation met the Convener of Moray Council, Cllr George McIntyre, at the council chamber and enjoyed a whisky tasting session courtesy of the Glen Moray distillery.

CIFAL Findhorn is part of a global network of 12 UNITAR International Training Centres that operate as a hub for training and capacity building through the exchange of practices between UN agencies, local authorities, public and private sectors, civil society and academic institutions.
