Date -05 Sep 2007 Return to previous page

Following a successful bid to Highland 2007 to help fund secondary school rugby in the Moray area, two festivals are planned to take place this month.

The games have been organised to run at the same time as the Rugby World Cup, in which Scotland are one of the countries competing.

The two secondary school festivals are targeting all S1 and 2 pupils in the Moray area.

The first will take place at Morriston Playing Fields, Elgin on Wed 26th Sept from 4.30-6.30pm.

 School rugby

The format of this festival will be for participants to work round a fun skills circuit relating to the sport of rugby. Participants will then be organised into teams and will play against other teams in a round robin format.

The second festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday 10th November from 10am-12noon at Morriston Playing Fields, Elgin.

The format of this festival will be a Sevens tournament between all secondary schools.

All participants at both festivals will be encouraged to join their local rugby club to sustain their interest in the sport of rugby. The recent bid was submitted through the Moray Community Rugby group, which comprises of SRU staff, Moray Council Sports Development and Active Schools staff, and local club representatives.

The group’s vision is to work in partnership to develop the sport of rugby in the Moray area to the best of its ability by pulling resources together.

For further information on either of these festivals please contact the Sports Development Officer on 01343 563657.
