Cemetery headstones
Date -13 Dec 2007 Return to previous page

Work will begin early in the New Year to stabilise unsafe headstones in the east section of Elgin cemetery.

It is part of a phased programme being carried out by Moray Council in burial grounds in their ownership.

Most of the work is taking place in older parts of cemeteries.

Stabilising headstones is an issue, which is being addressed nationally at the instigation of council insurers.

One hundred and eighty-nine headstones require attention in the east section of Elgin cemetery and the work will continue until late March.

In some instances it will be necessary to remove overgrown trees and shrubs to allow access for lifting equipment.

Anyone who requires further information or who has a personal interest in the matter should contact Garry Morrison on 01343 557046.
