Moray Council is seeking to recruit sports coaches to help with the delivery of both the Active Schools and sports development programmes for children throughout Moray.
The area’s Active Schools co-ordinators work with local sports clubs and community groups to create an activity pathway for children by introducing activities during the school day and linking them to community-based provision.
The ultimate aim is to enable children to develop good physical activity habits that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
The council’s sports development team aims to increase the physical activity levels among children by providing them with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports and to help nurture and support sporting talent in the area.
Focus sports currently include tennis, badminton, cricket, rugby and basketball.
The ability of both Active Schools and sports development to meet their targets is to an extent determined by the number and quality of coaches they are able to recruit.
Both are now on the lookout for new coaches to increase the range and quality of activities on offer to children of school age in Moray.
Active Schools manager John McMulkin said: “We have the children who want to be active and we have the structure in place to support activities, but what we lack in many cases are the people to actually deliver sessions.
“The commitment required from potential coaches will be down to them – what they can fit in around the rest of their lives – but in all cases they will be well-supported, equipped and paid fairly in order to help us achieve our vision of more children, more active, more often.”
Sports development officer Kim Paterson said: “The more qualified and quality sports coaches we have at our disposal, the more activities and initiatives we can offer, thus increasing the opportunities for people of all ages to be more physically active, especially young people.”
Sessions run at various times during the school day, after school and at evenings and weekends.
