Elgin BID survey

Date Added - 07/01/09

Elgin fountainA survey of town centre businesses in Elgin is currently being carried out as part of the preparations for setting up a Business Improvement District (BID).

Questionnaires are being distributed to more than 410 businesses located within the designated area, which incorporates the traditional core area, including High Street, South Street, Batchen Street, Commerce Street and Lossie Wynd.

The survey will give businesses an opportunity to have their say by answering a series of key questions and will provide an understanding of what is required and what priorities need to be addressed.

The information will be analysed to identify priorities and themes which will form part of a business plan at a later stage.

It is important that businesses recognise that the questionnaire is not a circular and that they respond and give their views.

If successful, the BID would allow Elgin to retain and improve its competitive advantage in a sustainable, proactive and managed way, enabling the town to build on its success and create a vibrant town centre for the people of Moray and visitors alike.

However, a BID is not a substitute for central or local government investment but an additional means of strengthening the local economy and giving local businesses a unified voice.

It would also help to provide an arena for businesses and local authorities to increase their understanding of each other’s priorities.

Any business seeking further information should contact Graeme Mackenzie on 01343 544304 or Reni Milburn on 01343 563425.
