Buckie community learning inspection report

Date Added - 20/01/09

The quality of community learning and development in communities surrounding Buckie High School has been praised by HM inspectors of education.

Three of the five assessments awarded by the inspectors were ‘very good’, another ‘good’ and the fifth ‘satisfactory’.

The report, published today (Jan 13), focuses on CLD activities in Buckie and the neighbouring communities of Cullen, Findochty, Portessie, Portknockie and Portgordon.

It found some very good examples of adult learning leading to community empowerment and a very well targeted range of provision for adults and young people.

The report also notes the enthusiasm and commitment of CLD staff, along with strong operational leadership.

Staff working with young people were well motivated, committed and demonstrated high morale, said the report.

“They are working effectively with partner agencies in school and community settings. Individual young people and groups from a broad range of social and family backgrounds are well supported by CLD and their partners.

“Youth work is well targeted. Projects such as After School Groups and Young People in Buckie engage effectively with young people who require additional support in school and community settings.”

The report said adult learners were also supported effectively by CLD staff and their partners.

“They deliver a very good range of provision,” said the report. “All learners are very positive about the impact their learning is having on their lives. Almost all are achieving their learning goals outlined in their individual learning plans.”

Inspectors said that CLD in Buckie was ‘well led’, with operational managers demonstrating strong and effective leadership.

“Staff are motivated and professional and share a clear vision,” said the report. “CLD and their partners are working effectively in a range of settings to secure high quality services for the local community.”

Richard Donald, Moray Council’s acting head of educational support services, said: “I am pleased with this report which, as well as acknowledging the unique strengths of the community learning team within the Buckie area, further demonstrates the benefits to be achieved when services work together in an integrated manner.

“The report clearly reflects the benefits to the learning community of integrated services and well done to everyone concerned.”
