Moves are afoot to form a BALL – Be Active Life Long – group for over 60s in Elgin.
Similar groups are already running successfully in a number of other communities, including Hopeman, Forres, Fochabers, Lhanbryde, Lossiemouth, Spey Bay, Tomintoul, Keith and Dufftown.
A taster day held in November proved so popular that a group is to be established in Elgin, with the first weekly meeting to take place on Wednesday, February 4 at the Holy Trinity Church Hall.
Initially the group will run from 10am to 12.15pm for 14 weeks, with a weekly charge of £2.
Participants will take part in a range of activities, including some physical exercise such as dancing and tai chi.
The initial 14-week programme will be supported financially by the Moray Community Health and Social Care Partnership along with Moray Council’s community learning and development section and its sports development team.
It is envisaged that thereafter the group will become independent and form a committee to organise events, as the other BALL groups in Moray have done.
The BALL groups provide opportunities and choices for older adults, help raise confidence and self-esteem and improve the quality of life for those taking part by increasing mobility and offering companionship.
