Cash from Buckie's Common Good Fund could be used to finance a yachting marina at the town's harbour, it has been suggested.
Local councillor Gordon McDonald's proposal to use money from the fund to regenerate the harbour was taken on board by fellow members of Moray Council's economic development and infrastructure services committee today.
Council officials will now examine the feasibility of the suggestion.
Councillor McDonald said that income generated from mooring fees could be pumped back into the Common Good Fund.
Buckie harbour - the biggest in Moray - has been in gradual decline due to the downturn in the fishing industry and a number of studies have been carried out with a view to its redevelopment and regeneration.
Councillor McDonald told the committee: "Buckie has been studied to death. It's about time we did something."
