Pupils from Elgin’s two secondaries are enjoying some after-school exhilaration by taking surfing lessons.
Moray Council’s Active Schools team has joined forces with instructor Donald Piece to introduce Elgin Academy and Elgin High pupils to the sport.
This term sessions are being held at Lossiemouth’s east beach on Wednesday and Friday from 3.45pm to 5.45pm.
Active Schools co-ordinator Anna Riddell has played a key part in organising the sessions.
“Surfing is an exciting, fun and healthy activity and Moray is blessed with some fantastic beach breaks,” she said. “It is becoming so popular with adults that we decided it was time to get more kids involved.”
Mr Piece, a British Surfing Association instructor, said: “Moray is a brilliant place to learn because the waves are never too big but still fairly regular.”
Last weekend Thurso hosted one of the world’s biggest surfing competitions, but of the 150 surfers from all over the world, only one was from Scotland.
