The second Moray West girls’ football festival will be held at the Cooper Park in Elgin on Sunday, May 24 from 10am to 12 noon.
It is open to girls in primaries four to seven in the Elgin and Lossiemouth area and they can take part as individuals or as school teams.
The last festival saw a turnout of more than 60 girls and the North Regional Girls’ Football League hopes to see an even bigger entry on Sunday.
After-school initiatives in the Lossiemouth and Fochabers areas have attracted over 30 primary aged girls between them since the last festival while Active Schools have been working on the transition from primary to secondary school football.
The league’s development assistant, Finella Annand, said: “The efforts of both the NRGFL and Active Schools to get more girls playing football are starting to pay off and we are now seeing a big increase in participation rates.
“The important thing now is to create a pathway for these girls so that they can go on to play club level football if they so wish.”
