Spicy Drama

Date Added - 06/08/09

Moray Council's arts development and cultural co-ordinator teams have been awarded £10,000 from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to deliver a drama production to communities across Moray.

The FSA received 108 applications for funding across the UK and the Moray project is one of only six in Scotland to have been successful.

The working title of the project is 'Sugar and spice and all things nice' and it will focus on food myths and promoting healthy eating in an entertaining and engaging way.

The final production will not take place until June next year but the project team is keen to hear now from anyone who would like their local food myths included in the development of the production.

Moray Council arts development officer Nick Fearne said: "It is really important that the project is not driven by healthy eating messages.

"It must stand up as a good piece of drama if it is to engage the audience. There is a wide range of information available around general food myths but it would be wonderful to incorporate some locally held beliefs."

One myth the team is hoping to dispel is that healthy eating costs more and the steering group responsible for co-ordinating the project is keen to include some healthy eating recipes in the programme that will be distributed prior to the performances.

Younger people might want to reflect on the current credit crunch with their recipes, while the older generation might want to suggest some of their favourite healthy wartime recipes.

Myths and recipes can be e-mailed to culture@moray.gov.uk
