Fireworks

Date Added - 04/11/09

With Bonfire night just a few days away, Moray Council Trading Standards are warning the public that they could put themselves, their families and the community at risk if they do not buy fireworks from reputable businesses. Retailers stocking fireworks must be registered with the Council and each registered business has been visited by officers from Trading Standards to ensure that the fireworks comply with British Safety Standards and are stored in the correct manner.

When buying fireworks, Trading Standards advise the public not to buy fireworks over the internet or from car boot sales, door-to-door sellers or market stalls. It is illegal to sell fireworks in public places such as these. Fireworks are an age-restricted product and you must be 18 or over to buy them. Unregistered or illegal sellers of fireworks may provide children an opportunity to get access to such a dangerous item. Fireworks are explosives and should be treated with caution.Trading Standards want to encourage everyone to follow the Fireworks codeto continue to ensure the responsible use of fireworks, so that everyone can enjoy a safe bonfire night.

Further information is available from Trading Standards on 01343 554617.
