Financial settlement – Moray Council

Date Added - 26/11/09

Moray Council’s total budget allocation for 2010-11, announced today by the Scottish Government, is £198million, almost exactly the same as last year.

Commenting on the announcement, deputy convener Councillor Allan Wright said: “This is exactly as we anticipated in September when we announced that £5million of savings would have to be achieved in the next financial year.

“Our allocation is £2.2million less that the Scottish Government forecast more than a year ago and the reduction is our share of the claimed reduction in funding from Westminster. That reduction and the increased demand on our services means we have to save £5million.”

Councillor Wright said the continued national allocation of £70million would allow the council to freeze council tax for a further year.

On the fringes of the settlement figures, John Swinney has also announced that, following a review, the way government monies are allocated to the 32 councils will not be changed. Councillor Wright said the decision did not affect the share given to Moray.
