Moray Council officials are to look afresh at options for saving closure-threatened pensioners’ lunch clubs.
The clubs which meet at Elgin Community Centre and Forres Community Centre face closure at the end of next month as part of the council’s budget savings.
During last month’s budget-setting exercise councillors agreed that unless a club could produce a meal for a maximum of £4.25, inclusive of VAT, it should close.
The Elgin and Forres clubs meet in council-run community centres where meals are prepared and served by council staff at subsidised rates.
The closure proposal has met with strong opposition from club users and other sections of the community.
Councillors today took the view that all avenues had not been fully explored and instructed officials to look again at possible options for keeping the lunch clubs open.
The outcome of the review will be reported back to council group leaders as quickly as possible.
