Bridge closure

Date Added - 11/07/11

The Boat o’ Brig, which carries traffic over the River Spey at Orton, is to close for repairs next week.

The single-lane bridge was damaged several weeks ago when a large lorry struck a high level cross girder.

Although the damage was significant, it was considered that there was no need to close the bridge immediately.

Moray Council’s senior bridge engineer, Neil Fotheringham, said: “We have to go ahead with the full repair fairly quickly to ensure the stability of the structure and, with the narrow width, it is not possible to keep the bridge open. I can only apologise for the inconvenience and try to make sure that we finish the work on time.”

Work will begin on Monday, July 18 and it is anticipated it will be completed within five days. Pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge during the closure period.

Diversions will be in place via the B9015 and the A95, with the nearest upstream crossing being at Craigellachie.
