Big Lottery new funding opportunity

Date Added - 18/07/11

Groups across Moray will find out if a new £9million lottery fund could shape their neighbourhoods when the Big Lottery Fund comes to Elgin next month.

The Big Lottery Fund team will be on hand at Elgin Town Hall on Wednesday, August 10 to provide information and advice to groups which may be eligible to apply to its new Community Spaces Scotland programme.

From developing allotments, parks and community gardens to improving village halls and community centres, Community Spaces Scotland will bring people together to provide somewhere better for them to come together to be healthier, happier and more active.

The programme will target £9million of investment to support around 90 community-led improvements to both indoor and outdoor spaces over three years.

The information day at Elgin Town Hall will consist of morning and afternoon sessions, each of which will feature an overview of the Big Lottery Fund programmes and the opportunity to discuss project ideas with Big Lottery Fund staff.

Groups wanting more information or to book a place should call 0141 242 1400 or e-mail Reception.Scotland@biglotteryfund.org.uk

Big Lottery Fund Scotland chairman Alison Magee said: “Community Spaces Scotland aims to bring communities together to determine their own needs and priorities. Whether it’s turning an existing green space into a community allotment, bringing a derelict play park back to its former glory or refurbishing a village hall, this new funding will help local people to develop and take responsibility for those places and spaces that matter to them.

“We look forward to meeting groups in Moray to explain more about this new investment as well as helping them to develop any project ideas which could benefit from our wider funding.”
