Moray councillors have agreed to submit a funding application for a development officer to oversee economic development projects along the coastal belt from Burghead to Cullen.

The move follows last week’s announcement that coastal communities in Moray are set to benefit from a new fund totalling almost £400,000.

Half will come from the European Fisheries Fund, with Moray Council funding the other 50%.

The scheme is aimed at communities which have been affected by the decline in recent years of the fishing industry.

A fisheries local action group – FLAG – has already been set up to administer the scheme in Moray and it will be responsible for considering applications and disbursing funds for local projects.

Moray Council’s economic development and infrastructure services committee agreed to apply to the European Fisheries Fund for further funding for a development officer to promote and deliver the scheme.
