Most private landlords ask for a deposit as security but sometimes it can be difficult for tenants to get this back when they leave.
Regulations to protect private tenants from having their deposit unfairly withheld came into force today. All Scottish landlords must pay deposits into a government approved scheme. For more information see our page on rent deposits
