Moray Council has announced the appointment of Susan Maclaren as Head of Integrated Children's Services within their recently established Education and Social Care department.

Currently a member of the department's Continuous Improvement Team, Susan has an extensive background in public service, which has included posts in the Women's Royal Naval Service and the Northern Constabulary before undertaking a wide range of social work and child protection roles in Highland Region and the Moray Council.

Susan said: "I'm delighted that I've been appointed to this exciting role as it gives us the opportunity to bring together a number of key services for the benefit of local children and their families.

“We have many very able and committed staff in Moray who have worked hard to improve services and I'm really looking forward to playing a key role in helping services to move forward."

Chair of Moray Council's Children and Young People's Committee Cllr. Anne Skene said:" Susan will bring a wealth of experience to the role and I have every confidence that she will prove to be an excellent appointment.

“She has a strong record in working across agencies to strengthen services for children and is well respected by her colleagues."

Sandy Riddell, Corporate Director for Education and Social Care, said the appointment heralds an important milestone in Moray's transformation of children's services. "With Susan's experience of working with a wide range of professionals and her track record in achieving service improvement, I can foresee her leadership playing a vital role in us all being able to deliver better outcomes for our local children and their families."

Susan will take up post early January.
