Children and young people are described as having additional support needs if, compared with other children of similar ages, they have a significant difficulty in learning, or a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of the educational facilities which are provided for children of that age. The aim of education for children with special educational needs is the same as for all children and should be appropriate to their age, ability and aptitude.
Pre-school provision is also available for children with additional support needs.
