FOI Request - Public Health Funerals

What I would like to request is any information you have relating to Public Health Funerals in Moray since 2002.

The information I am looking for relates to;
1) the number of funerals,
2)the age of the deceased,
3)the cost of these funerals,
4)the amount of money recovered from the deceased's
estate (in relation to the funeral costs),
5)and the reason given for them requiring a Public Health Funeral.

Please note that although information was requested for the period since 2002 that this has had to be restricted to the records available for the last six financial years, in accordance with the Council's Records Management Policy. Information prior to this is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, information not held.


1. Number of funerals
April 2010- March 2011: Three
April 2011- March 2012: One
April 2012- March 2013: Two
April 2013- March 2014: Five
April 2014- March 2015: Six
April 2015- 12 February 2016: Three


2. Ages of deceased
2010-11: 66, years, 70 and 83
2011-12: 50 years
2012-13: 60 years and 66
2013-14: 56 years, 67, 67,71 and 84
2014-15: 46 years, 67, 78, 69, 77 and 76
2015-16: 88 years, 62 and 91.


3. Total costs of funerals
2010-11: £2408.83
2011-12: £428.00
2012-13: £2402.62
2013-14: £5911.89
2014-15: £8847.74
2015-16: £7966.30


4. Total amounts of money recovered for funeral costs
2010-11: £1433.29
2011-12: £5.50
2012-13: £301.08
2013-14: £2412.95
2014- 15: £4139.63
2015-16: £7529.54


5. Moray Council made these funeral arrangements in terms of Section 50 of the National Assistance Act
1948 because the deceased person had no next of kin or persons acting on their behalf and for whom no
other suitable funeral arrangements were being made.
