Please will you supply me with the following information regarding the provision of adult literacies learning by the Council from 2007 – 2015. Please will you provide this information in a spreadsheet i.e. in a Microsoft Excel (.xls) file.


1. How many designated literacy or numeracy classes were available each year, for the nine years commencing in 2007 and finishing in 2015? Figures for ‘academic’ rather than ‘calendar’ years are acceptable. ‘Designated literacy class’ refers to a timetabled session with learners for the tutoring/teaching of literacy or numeracy (typically at SCQF Levels 3 or below) only i.e. not an employability or crafts class where literacies are embedded.


2. How many adult literacies learners completed at least 6 hours of learning in one year in ‘designated literacy classes’, for the nine years commencing in 2007 and finishing in 2015? Figures for ‘academic’ rather than ‘calendar’ years are acceptable. If you do not have information regarding the number of hours attended, please indicate this and instead provide the raw figures for numbers of learners who were recorded as attending that year.  An ‘adult literacy learner’ refers to a learner attending a timetabled session designated for the teaching of literacy or numeracy (typically at SCQF Levels 3 or below) only i.e. not an employability or crafts class where literacies are embedded.


3. How many designated literacy or numeracy tutor/workers were employed for each year, for the nine years commencing in 2007 and finishing in 2015? Figures for ‘academic’ rather than ‘calendar’ years are acceptable.  Designated literacy or numeracy tutor/worker means a specialist worker employed specifically to tutor or teach literacy or numeracy with learners (typically at SCQF Levels 3 or below). Please give actual numbers of tutors and how many full time workers these are equivalent to. For example, 11 part time tutors, doing the work of 2.4 full time staff. Do not include volunteers.


4. How many ‘literacy embedded’ classes were available each year, for the nine years commencing in 2007 and finishing in 2015? Figures for ‘academic’ rather than ‘calendar’ years are acceptable. ‘Literacy embedded’ refers to classes purposefully designed so that literacy learners (typically at SCQF Levels 3 or below) may be encouraged to attend, where literacies learning has been embedded e.g. drama, crafts or employability. Please provide the title of the class and the number of classes e.g. arts and crafts, 2, drama, 1, job club, 1.


5. How many learners completed at least 6 hours of learning in ‘literacy embedded' classes in one year, for the nine years commencing in 2007 and finishing in 2015? Figures for ‘academic’ rather than ‘calendar’ years are acceptable. If you do not have information regarding the number of hours attended, please indicate this and instead provide the raw figures for numbers of learners who were recorded as attending that year.  ‘Literacy embedded’ refers to classes purposefully designed so that literacy learners (typically at SCQF Levels 3 or below) may be encouraged to attend, where literacies learning has been embedded e.g. drama, crafts or employability. Teaching English for speakers of other languages should not be included in any of the above data.

Please find attached here details requested however I need to explain that our provision is mainly 1:1 work in the community up to SCQF 4. The figures for designated classes reflect our 1:1s  We do not work in academic years or in a formal education setting.
