Campervan and Motorhome Overnight parking pilot - Burghead
The Council is operating a pilot overnight parking scheme for campervans and motorhomes this year at Station Road car park in Burghead.
Running from 1 April to 30 November 2026, the trial will cover the peak visitor season. It follows a public consultation in 2025 which attracted more than 2,200 responses and demonstrated strong support for designated overnight parking.
The pilot is intended to provide a safe and well-managed overnight option for visitors, while supporting the local economy and respecting the needs of residents. Burghead was chosen due to strong local backing and the availability of nearby waste disposal facilities at Burghead Harbour.
Under the scheme, a maximum of 2 self-contained campervans and motorhomes will be able to stay overnight between 6pm and 10am, with a maximum stay of one night.
A payment of £7 per night is requested which can be made using Moray Council’s existing parking app: PayByPhone – www.paybyphone.co.uk
(The location details for this payment is: 811845 Moray Council, Off Street, Burghead). You can also make a payment by calling 01224 440871.
A clear set of conditions will apply, including no outdoor equipment such as chairs or awnings, no generators and no waste or water facilities on site. Vehicles must be fully self-contained, and users are expected to be considerate of other car park users and nearby residents.
Signage is installed at the car park to outline the terms of use and direct visitors to nearby facilities.
As part of the trial, the council will review and monitor factors such as the level of complaints or compliments, income generated and any community feedback. The results from the trial will be presented to committee to assist in the decision making process with regards an overnight stay scheme.
