FOI Request - Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children

Request 101001179348

It is my understanding that under the Children Act 1989 and Children (Scotland) Act 1995 that it is a council’s legal responsibility to care for under-18s who arrive by themselves in their council area from abroad, seeking international protection i.e. unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (or a UASC).

Within this context, please tell me:

1.   By financial year, between 2011/12 and 2015/16, how many UASCs have been registered with your council? If possible, please also give me a breakdown by age, gender and nationality.

2.  By financial year, between 2011/12 and 2015/16, how many UASCs have disappeared from, or are currently missing from, council care? For each year, please provide a breakdown of age, gender and nationality.

3.  By financial year, between 2011/12 and 2015/16, what was (a) the budget allotted for the care of UASCs, and (b) the actual amount spent? If possible, please break this down i.e. psychological/physical treatment, translation services, accommodation etc.

4.  By financial year, between 2011/12 and 2015/16, how many social workers (trained to work with UASCs) did the council have on staff?

5.  By financial year, between 2011/12 and 2015/16, how many times did the council contact police over concerns UASCs may have been trafficked?
