FOI Request Children's Services Referrals

Request 101001481649

How many children were referred to children's social services due to concern that they may be at risk of child sexual exploitation in 2016?
Does this represent an increase on previous years?

Response 24-04-2017

Numbers less than 5 are deemed to be disclosive and are therefore exempt under Section 38(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002; Personal Information.

The other problem with answering this question is that the definition of Child Sexual Exploitation (when used in a Child Protection case conference context) has only just come into use.  The previous national concern was Child Exploitation.   From 16-17, the use of Child Exploitation was replaced with three new categories of concern:  Child Sexual Exploitation, Forced & Dangerous Labour and Trafficking.    Therefore, any numbers of children on the CPR for Child Exploitation cannot be contrasted against the new Child Sexual Exploitation concern as this will give a false reading.
