I would like to know all of the following:

1) What was the total number of potholes reported to the council during 2017 - and specifically the period of 1st January 2017 to 31st December 2017?

2) How many potholes did the council fix during 2017? (1st January 2017 to 31st December 2017)

3) How much did the council spend on fixing potholes during 2017? (1st January 2017 to 31st December 2017)

4) How much did the council spend on fixing potholes during the previous year 2016? (1st January 2016 to 31st December 2016)

5) What was the total number of compensation claims to the council from road users claiming for damage or injury caused by potholes and damaged road surfaces during 2017?

6) How many of these claims were successful during 2017? (i.e compensation paid out)

7) What was the total amount of compensation paid out by the council to road users claiming damage or injury caused by potholes and damaged road surfaces during 2017? (1st January 2017 to 31st December 2017)

1. This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  The closest data we have is the number of enquiries which were recorded in 2017, and categorised as  ‘carriageway defects’, which was 380.  It is important to note that not all of the above enquiries will have been regarding pothole defects, and also that some enquiries may have been reporting several defects in a vicinity.

2. This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  The closest data we have is the number of ‘carriageway defect’ works instructions which were completed in 2017, which was 3111.  Again, it is important to note that each of these works instruction may have included the repair of several carriageway defects within a vicinity, and that only some of the defects repaired would have been potholes.

3. This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  Our financial system works on a financial year basis so we are unable to extract costs for the 2017 calendar year  in isolation.
