Please provide the following:

1.       How many potholes/roads needing repaired have been reported to the Council in each of the last five years, broken down by year?
2.       What is the total amount spent by the Council on road repairs in each of the last five years, broken down by year.  
3.       What is the total number of potholes which have been filled by the Council in each of the last five years?
4.       What is the current backlog of road repairs needing to be tackled by the council?
5.       How many compensation claims have been made against the Council in each of the last five years (broken down by year) as a result of vehicle damage related to roads/potholes.
6.       What has been the total cost to the Council of compensation payments relating to claims made against the Council as a result

1. This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  The closest data we have is the number of enquiries which were recorded each financial year and categorised as  ‘carriageway defects’.  These are quantified within the table below.  It is important to note that not all of those enquiries will have been regarding pothole defects, and also that some enquiries may have been reporting several defects in a vicinity.

This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  The closest data we have is the number of ‘carriageway defect’ works instructions which were completed each financial year, which are also quantified with the table below.  The cost of carrying out these repairs, which is presumably what Q.2 is requesting,  is also quantified within the table below.  Again, it is important to note that each of these works instruction may have included the repair of several carriageway defects within a vicinity, and that only some of the defects repaired would have been potholes.
