Move to Elgin Library

The Local Heritage Centre is moving from its current location within the old East End School to Elgin Library and there will therefore be limited access to resources for one week from Monday 30 November.

The Local Heritage Centre for Moray offers a fascinating insight to Moray's history and to ancestry searches.

The Centre is based within the old East End School, Institution Road, Elgin, IV30 1RP.

Photocopier, free internet access and microfilm printer services are also available and a search service can be provided.

Opening Hours:

Monday, *Wednesday, Thursday, Friday   10.00am - 5.00pm
Tuesday                                                   10.00am - 8.00pm
Saturday                                                  10.00am - 12noon
*Closed Wednesday October-March inclusive


All libraries have local history books for borrowing and a file of local historical information for reference.

Buckie, Forres and Keith libraries have copies of local newspapers, parish and census records, collections of maps and a small collection of photographs.


LIBINDX is the on-line index of People, Places and Subjects, Cemetery Explorer, examples from the collection and guidance for ancestry searches.

You can also search the Museums and Archives catalogue for information on the Peter Anson collection and the A.J. Morrison collection of architectural drawings including the work of Charles Doig.

Copy Birth/Marriage/Death Certificates

Applications and searches for a copy of a birth, marriage or death certificate can be obtained from Elgin Registration Office
