Building Standards - Starting Work
New Building - Wards Road

Your Building Warrant is valid for three years from the date of approval.  You can start work at any time within this period, however, work must be completed and a Completion Certificate accepted before your Building Warrant expires and plenty of time should be given for carrying out the building work.

You must notify Building Standards at each of the following stages of your building project:

Start of work - the work start notification form received with your Building Warrant should be returned within 7 days of the work starting.

Drainage - it is a legal requirement that new drainage is inspected and tested before backfilling of the trenches etc.  It is your responsibility to have the test set up ready for inspection by Building Standards.  Please give us at least 24 hours notice.

Completion of Work - Submit your Completion Certificate and Electrical Certification when you are satisfied that you have carried out all works in conformity with your Building Warrant. Although the Completion Certificate Submission form would have been supplied with your Building Warrant an additional copy may be obtained by clicking here. Building Standards are not responsible for inpecting work under construction.  Although we will normally attempt to carry out an inspection of the work, the number of these inspections will depend on how complex your building project is and on how many other buildings require to be inspected at any perticular time.  For this reason, we strongly recommend that you employ an Architect or Building Surveyor to check that the quality of work being undertaken is of a good standard and that your interests are being safe guarded.  The acceptance of a Completion Certificate may not be taken as a  guarantee of quality but confirms only, after resonable enquiry, that the work carried out is in conformity with the plans approved as part of the Building Warrant and complies with Building Regulations.
