What are Children’s Hearings?
Children’s Hearings (this link opens in a new window) were introduced in 1971 to deal with children (normally up to the age of 16 years) who are in some kind of trouble or have committed offences. Children’s Hearings make legally binding decisions about the support children should receive.
There is a Panel for each local area made up from a group of volunteers. There are no specific qualifications required but Panel members undergo a rigorous selection and training process before they are appointed and also receive training throughout their membership. Panel members are unpaid but receive allowances to cover the costs of attending Hearings and training.
We hold a yearly recruitment campaign in September or October. If you are interested in applying to join the Panel an application can be made at this time.
