Birth, Death or marriage and civil partnership certificates

Fee at time of registration or within one month of registration

The cost of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership extract in Scotland if the registration date is still within its first month is £10.

Fees applicable after one month of registration

Extracts out with the first month will cost £15 for the first copy, with each additional copy of the same certificate costing £10.

An abbreviated certificate shows minimal information and a full certificate shows exactly what is recorded on the register page. There may be additional charges, if certificates are required to be posted.

Statutory Marriage fees

These fees are determined by the Registrar General of Scotland.

Religious Marriages

Marriage notice fee (£30 per person, non-refundable) £60

Additional fees for civil marriages (set by Moray Council)

With effect from 1 April 2018 the fees set by us are:

Civil Ceremony within the Council’s Marriage Room

In addition to the above statutory marriage fees (as shown above) during a civil ceremony in the marriage room we apply a surcharge for:

  • the use of the Marriage Room
  • at a ceremony held on a Saturday, a surcharge for an authorised Registrar to conduct the ceremony

A non-refundable booking fee deposit of £60 is required at time of booking; however, the deposit will be deducted from fees due.

Civil Ceremony held at an external venue

A surcharge is applied for an authorised Registrar to conduct a civil marriage in an external venue.

Civil Ceremony held in an isolated location

Where a ceremony is conducted in isolated locations, our policy requires that two registrars attend the ceremony, the surcharge covers this requirement.

Any information sent to customer may be subject to postage charge.
