Tobacco Register Reminder (September 2011)

Moray Council’s trading standards service has reminder local tobacco retailers of the need to sign up to the Scottish tobacco retailer register before October 1.

Moray Warning Over Rogue Traders (August 2011)

Moray Council’s trading standards section has warned residents about the dangers of giving work to rogue traders after a local woman was the victim of shoddy work and asked to pay an inflated price.

Fixed Penalties Issued for Under-age Tobacco Sales (August 2011)

Three Moray businesses have been issued with fixed penalties by Moray Council’s trading standards officers after selling cigarettes to under-18s.

Moray Council is warning local residents not to fall for a new employment scam after two consumers contacted the trading standards section after almost losing thousands of pounds when they went looking for part-time work.

The Moray Council’s Trading Standards Service are seeking to warn the Moray Community about businesses cold calling residents offering ‘free’ security and alarm systems but which can tie victims into hidden long term contracts costing thousands of pounds.

Spring Warning of Rogue Traders In Moray (March 2011)

The Moray Council Trading Standards Service and Grampian Police are warning the Moray community that there is likely to be an increased risk of rogue traders calling at their door over the next few months. As the end of the winter encourages homeowners to look at their properties, rogue businesses who offer to carry out gardening work, repair or clean roofs or replace tarmac often target homeowners.

VAT Increase (January 2011)

With the standard rate of VAT being increased to 20% on the fourth of January 2011, The Moray Council’s Trading Standards Service are keen to advise both consumers and business on the effects of the changes to prices and to prevent any potential for misleading price information as a result of the increase.

Moray Council Trading Standards are looking to give some friendly advice to Moray consumers looking to buy presents online this Christmas. Their warning is to order early and make sure you read the ‘small print’.

Shortweight Coal Prosecution (October 2010)

Trading Standards with The Moray Council have welcomed the prosecution of a national coal supplier for selling two bags of coal which were considerably under the declared weight and warn others to be careful during the coming winter months.
