Housing Benefit is a state benefit to help you pay your rent if you are on a low income.
Any person responsible for paying rent within our area may apply for Housing Benefit. If you live with your partner, you can make only one application for benefit. However, if you are a joint tenant, both of you will have to apply separately for Housing Benefit. Remember, Housing Benefit depends on your income and savings and may only cover part of your rent. You will be responsible for any part of your rent that Housing Benefit does not cover.
You can get an application form by visiting or phoning one of our offices. If you cannot get to one of our offices, we can arrange for one of Housing Revenues’ visiting officers to visit you at home. Our Web Benefits Calculator can help you to get an instant on-line Benefits estimate.
How much you get will depend on the information you give us on the application form. We will need information about your and your partner’s income, your outgoings and details of anyone else living with you.
