Registration of Private Landlords

The registration of private landlords under the Anti Social Behaviour (Scotland) Act 2004 was introduced from 30 April 2006.

It is an offence to rent out a property without registering as a landlord with the local authority where the property is located.

You can register online or contact us for an application form. A 10% discount applies for all on-line applications.

Further information on the scheme can be found by visiting  www.betterrentingscotland.com

In the meantime, for details of the scheme or to be included on our information mailing list, please contact us.

New Repairing Standards have also been introduced.  A copy of the leaflet "New Rights for Private Sector Tenants", which gives information for landlords and tenants can be found here.  Further information is available on the Private Rented Housing Panel website.

Advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau can be found here.

After 4th January 2009, all landlords offering domestic property for rent in Scotland will need to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).  Information on EPCs can be found here. (pdf, 1 page, 141KB).

Information on how to improve the energy efficiency of properties can be found here (pdf, 5 pages, 2.60MB).
