Keith Primary School

Keith Primary School

  • Keith Primary School is split between two sites with one site being occupied by pupils in the early stages of Primary and the other being occupied by the older children. The junior site was built in 1864 and the senior site was built in 1939. Four of the classes are located in poor quality huts in the playground. An abandoned pre-fabricated former dining hall occupies part of the site, and children at the Primary School presently shares dining facilities with the adjacent Keith Grammar School. Playing fields are also shared with the Grammar School and there is no formal boundary between the two establishments.

Keith Primary School serves the population of Keith in the East of Moray. The school provides pre-school and primary education, and enhanced provision for pupils with additional support needs. The roll at September 2007 was 346.

  • Becomes a single building for a 2 stream primary school plus nursery.
  • Classrooms from P1-6 have a folding partition to separate the “classroom” from the wet or activity areas, and these can be opened at will by teachers to provide flexible spaces for different forms of teaching.
  • A pupil support unit is close to the school entrance and is in the heart of the building.
  • A community facility is provided adjacent to the Assembly/games hall (2 badminton court size), and this in turn is placed adjacent to the dining hall which will be a multi-use flexible space for school use and for performances.
  • External environment has quiet spaces and also space for more active use, including a 2G multi-use games area (MUGA).
  • Provision is made for school transport to drop off close to the school with wheelchair users able to be taken close to the main entrance.
  • In view of the limited parking available on local streets, good on site provision has been made for staff and visitors’ cars.
  • Additionally, a full size 3G floodlit synthetic pitch and 2 grass pitches are being provided for Keith Grammar School.
  • These will be handed over to the Council when completed and will be maintained by the Council.
